Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Wrap
After 12 days of competition across 22 sports with 4,400 athletes from 161 National Paralympic Committees, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games drew to a close over the weekend. We are extremely proud of all our Parafed Auckland Athletes: Anna Stevens, Barney Koneferenisi, Ben Tuimaseve, Corbin Hart, Gareth Lynch, Hayden Barton-Cootes, Michael Johnson, Sarah Ellington, Steven Hills, Tainafi Lefono, Tupou Neiufi.
Over the past two weeks these athletes have made significant contributions to the wider New Zealand Paralympic team, all of whom have been outstanding ambassadors for Aotearoa New Zealand, and making some of the most memorable moments in our sporting history. A total of 12 medals were won by Tupou Neiufi, William Stedman, Danielle Aitchison, Anna Grimaldi, Holly Robinson, Lisa Adams and Sophie Pascoe.
With such a big contingent over in Tokyo, it was fantastic to see all our athletes proudly flying the New Zealand flag. The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games have helped build momentum for change, seeing a return to the court for NZ Wheelchair Rugby, and by increasing Para sport visibility throughout the country. This focus will help strengthen the opportunities for people living with disabilities. We at Parafed Auckland congratulate all our Paralympians and look forward to fostering the next generation to fly the NZ flag on the world stage.
